Mano Amiga started as an immigrant rights organization that dedicated its service to educating the public about immigration issues, releasing individuals from deportation proceedings, and advocating for reforms in local criminal justice policy. We continue to fight for immigrant rights.

This is the impact of those policies.

VICTOR FREED

In 2018 a local from Wimberly, Tx Victor Avendano, was detained by Immigrations Customs Enforcement for rolling a stop sign, and was then taken into deportation proceedings. When the Avendano family reached out to Mano Amiga for help, we held protests at the jail, tabled for petition signatures, and encouraged the community to lobby their representatives. By 2018 Victor was finally freed from Hays County Jail!

The documentary “The Day They Took My Father” will be available soon.

Janelie Rodriguez

In 2018 a resident of Buda was taken into I.C.E. custody and put into deportation proceedings. Despite Mano Amiga’s best efforts, Janelie was eventually deported back to Mexico, a country she hadn’t seen since she was four years old. If you would like to donate to support Janelie, click here.

Mano Amiga and other community members storm the City Council chambers to speak out against racist and xenophobic SB4.
